- I too had this problem on Sunday. I attempted to install the USR Sportster
- 28.8 Winmodem. I finally solved the problem by going into the CMOS setup
- and disabling the second comm port.

- After I did this my new PnP modem installed itself correctly as comm port
- 2.

- Another note, the information in the Packard Bell manual on how to change
- CMOS parameters was wrong. Once you have entered the CMOS setup (press F1
- during boot), press the right arrow key to get to the next menu level.
